During work with the cornerstone construction of the new entrance to the church, workers discovered a time capsule placed in it when the church was built in 1963. It was opened after the liturgy in the presence of the congregation. In it was found a letter from Fr. Dimitri Ermakov, church membership roster, new church plans and information, Forerunner pamphlets, and a copy of "The Light of Orthodoxy", a diocese newspaper. It was exciting to be a part of this and catch a glimpse of the past.

Our Women's Bible Study Group has selected "Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World" which is available at Barnes & Noble ($10.98 paperback, $9.99 Nook).
...a short synopsis
The life of a woman today isn’t really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. Like Mary, you long to set at the Lord’s feet...but the daily demands of a busy world just won’t leave you alone. Like Martha, you love Jesus and really want to serve him...yet you struggle with weariness, resentment, and feelings of inadequacy.
Then comes Jesus, into the midst of your busy life, to extend the same invitation he issued long ago to the two sisters from Bethany. Tenderly, he invites you to choose ’’the better part’’--a joyful life of intimacy with Him that flows naturally into loving service.
With her fresh approach to the familiar Bible story, Joanna Weaver shows how all of us--Marys and Marthas alike--can draw closer to our Lord: deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy. Paperback, 241 pages.
If you are interested in joining in the discussion or just reading and listening, please join us on the folowing Sundays after Liturgy. Grab a cup of coffee at coffee hour and bring it on over to the parish house. The schedule, til January at least, is: 9/9, 10/14, 11/18, 12/9, and 1/14.

Pocket Flag Project - 03/18/07
The pocket flag project was conceived in Oct.2001 for the sole purpose of
getting as many American flags into the pockets of military personnel serving on
the front lines. You purchased pre-cut American flags from the P.F.Foundation,
and fold them into a triangle flag that fits into a shirt pocket. We put them
into a clear 3x2 plastic bag with a card that says, "A flag for your pocket so
you can always carry a little piec e of home. We are praying for you and are
proud of you. Thank you for defending our country and our freedom."
We had a nice turnout -- about 42 parishioners including the kids, their
parents, grandparents, friends, and veterans who came and folded our 300
American Flags in about an hour. We're sending the flags to three different units of troops serving in
Iraq.: 165 & 30 flags going to (2) army units AG CO and TC CO in Iraq; the remaining
100 flags are going to wounded soldiers in 13th SC(E) recovering in a hospital
in Iraq. Hopefully, they will brighten someone's day.
